A meeting of the PLANNING, HIGHWAYS & TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE will take place on Tuesday 11th August 2015. The meeting will be held at the Council Chamber, Council Offices, North Street, Ilminster starting at 19:30 hrs.
The public are welcome to attend this meeting. Members of the public are invited to ask questions or raise issues relevant to the work of the Council. The overall time available for this session is restricted to 15 minutes unless the Chair decides otherwise. Individual speakers are restricted to 3 minutes and are asked not to repeat points that have been made previously. It is helpful if potential contributors can make themselves known to the Town Clerk before the meeting so that the session can be programmed effectively.
Public participation is not part of the formal meeting of the Council however a note will be made of matters raised and recorded at the start of the minutes of the meeting.
Please note that the Town Council is a Statutory Consultee for Planning Applications and as such does not make the final decision on any application. Any decisions and comments this Committee makes will be fed into the planning process and added to the report by the Planning Officer. South Somerset District Council is the Planning Authority and will issue the final decision notice (Planning Determination) once their investigations into the application, consultation period and decision making process has been completed.

8. First Bus Service
To consider a letter submitted at the Annual Town Assembly regarding bus services in Ilminster and the subsequent research
9. The Sport’s Club Roof
During the next 18 months, the Cricket Club are intending to refurbish and make good the exterior of the Sports Club. The first phase will be to re-roof with cement fibre tiles; a sample will be available at the meeting. Committee approval is sought for the work and type of the tile.
10. Parking and Transport Issues
To consider various parking and transport issues in Ilminster.
11. Naming of new roads in Ilminster
- Jordans Road
- To identify possible new road names which can be included in a list and submitted to South Somerset District Council upon request. Councillor Drayton has recently suggested use of the name Nyanza (to continue associations with John Hanning Speke); previously Council have informally discussed a road being named after Councillor Paul Whaites.
12. Road Closures
- Temporary closure of Cricket Lane from Somerset Highways. The order becomes effective on 3rd August 2015 and will remain in force for 18 months. The works are expected to last for 4 weeks. While the closure is in operation an alternative route will be signed as detailed.
- Temporary closure of Langport Road from Somerset County Council. The road will be closed from 10th August 2015 and is expected to last for 1 week to enable traffic calming measures along A378 Langport Road which will include; resurfacing, road markings, signing and lining works to be carried out in the road.
- Temporary closure of Gas Lane, Hinton St. George. The road will be closed from 8th September 2015 for three days for essential gas works. The diversion route will be clearly signed for the duration of the works.
