Somerset libraries need volunteers this summer   Somerset Council libraries are looking for volunteers to help support this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, ‘Ready, Set, Read!’.   The challenge, which runs across all Somerset libraries, aims to encourage children to read six books during the summer holidays, while also engaging in a host of fun events and activities, online or at their local library.   In 2022, a total of 6595 children participated in the challenge and now Somerset libraries are looking for volunteers, aged 14 and over, to help this year’s challenge...

We are planning to re-surface Station Rd Ilminster on the 22/06/2023 – 30/06/2023 at night from 18:00 – 07:00. (It will be open in the day and weekends.   There will be an element of Prep works which will be done under signals from the 12/06/2023 – 21/06/2023 Day time working.   Nights have been chosen for because of the A303 and the number of businesses along that section.   Waste and recycling collections spring forward for bank holiday     Somerset Council is reminding residents that with the late spring bank holiday around the corner there will be a change to household waste collection days.   Crews will be collecting all waste a day later during week beginning Monday 29 May. This includes recycling, refuse and garden collections.   If your recycling and/or refuse is usually collected on a Monday, then it will be collected on a Tuesday, if your usual day is a Tuesday it will be collected on a Wednesday and so on. Annual Report 2022-2023

The Annual Community Assembly took place on Tuesday 18th April 2023 at The Meeting House, Arts Centre, East Street. The Town Crier opened the meeting before the Mayor and Chairs of Committees provided reports on what they have been involved with over the past year and also produced an Annual report 2023. This was followed by local organisations who shared information about what they did in the past year. It was a worthwhile event and it is hoped more residents will come along to the Annual Community Assembly in May...

  Attention Somerset: waste collections on Bank Holiday Monday 1 May!   In a change from usual Bank Holiday arrangements, please remember that waste collections will take place on Bank Holiday Monday, 1 May.   If your recycling and/or refuse is usually collected on a Monday, that will be the case on Monday 1 May. Collections will be on normal scheduled days for the rest of that week.   This is believed to be the first time Somerset’s crews have collected on a Bank Holiday in a special arrangement to accommodate the extra Bank Holiday for the coronation of King Charles...

A303 Closure Today – A358 – A30 Devonshire House

Please see below a message from National Highways, As you may be aware, the A303 is currently closed in both directions this morning between the A358 and the A30 Devonshire House Junction due to a power cable that’s fallen into the road.
