Born in Scotland, Brian moved to Plymouth, Devon in 1979. On leaving school, Brian began a career in retail and retail management after failing to enter the Royal Navy at the first attempt. In 1984, Brian achieved his goal of entering service with the Royal Navy where he remained for over 28 years.
During his career, he was fortunate enough to be posted around the UK as well as the Falkland Islands, Middle East, Italy and Portugal. In 1999 Brian met Carol, who was originally from Plymouth, but worked for the Ministry of Defence near Aldershot in Hampshire. In 2003 they were married in Scotland. After leaving their respective jobs, they both moved to Ilminster in 2017 having decided that they wanted to be closer to family in Plymouth.
They both consider this to be one of the best decisions they have made. They have both very much enjoyed getting to know the people and community of Ilminster over the last few years and getting stuck in. Brian with the council and Carol with the Library and Ilminster Arts Centre.
