Statement issued by Ilminster Town Council

As many of you may now know last night’s Beacon Lighting, in commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of D-Day, was called off due to a medical emergency.

Sadly, one of our spectators took ill at the top of Beacon Hill and the emergency services had to be called to attend.

Understandably, it was felt by everyone involved that it would be inappropriate for the event to carry on under such extreme circumstances.

We would like to thank the spectators that had gathered who dispersed quietly and with dignity for their cooperation and understanding.

The Town Council would like to take to take this opportunity to thank the quick thinking and rapid response of all those involved in assisting with the situation.

Not least the Carnival Marshal team, the Ilminster Cadet Force, our council staff, Dillington Estate team and the gentleman who ran to grab the defibrillator from the Market House. The amazing response by the Ambulance Crews to the situation and their tenacity to get to the location is testament to their dedication to our service.
